Dr. Reed is the Associate Director of the Monell Chemical Senses Center in Philadelphia, which is a non-profit research institute with scientists that use a multidisciplinary approach to study taste and smell. ​ She has a ​Bachelor of Science ​degree from the ​University of Washington ​and a Ph.D. from ​Yale University. She trained as a postdoctoral fellow at the University of Pennsylvania.
