From the cockpit of a 747 and then the terminal of JFK airport, Vanhoenacker describes what it's like to fly a large aircraft in the modern world.Vanhoenacker is also a Slate contributor and the author of the recent Skyfaring: A Journey with a Pilot, from which Slate is running excerpts this week.
