Despite being dishonourably discharged from the Canadian Special Forces, Deadpool continues to operate as a freelance mercenary thanks to his skills. He falls in love after meeting Vanessa, a prostitute. They become engaged, but Wade breaks up with her after learning that he has terminal cancer. Wade, in a state of desperation, consents to an experimental therapy in a lab owned by Ajax and Angel Dust. However, the serum, intended to activate any dormant magical mutant genes in Wade's body, leaves him scarred all over his body and disfigured. Ajax left Wade for dead, but Wade didn't realize that his cancer had been cured. Wade can now heal himself and regenerate. Deadpool will save Vanessa as Ajax abducts Wade.  In the course of X-Men Colossus.
