Thomas N. Seyfried is Professor of Biology at Boston College and received his Ph.D. inGenetics and Biochemistry from the University of Illinois in 1976. He did hisundergraduate work at the University of New England where he received adistinguished Alumni Achievement Award. He also holds a master’s degree in Geneticsfrom Illinois State University, Normal, IL. Thomas Seyfried served with distinction in theUnited States Army’s First Cavalry Division during the Vietnam War and receivednumerous medals and commendations. He was a Postdoctoral Fellow in theDepartment of Neurology at the Yale University School of Medicine and then served onthe faculty as an Assistant Professor in Neurology. Other awards and honors havecome from such diverse organizations as the American Oil Chemists Society, theNational Institutes of Health, The American Society for Neurochemistry, and theKetogenic Diet Special Interest Group of the American Epilepsy Society. ProfessorSeyfried previously served as Chair of the Scientific Advisory Committee for theNational Tay-Sachs and Allied Diseases Association. He has received the LifetimeAchievement Awards from the Academy of Complimentary and Integrative Medicine,the International Dose Response Society, and the Uncompromising Science Awardfrom the American College of Nutrition for his work on cancer. He is a member of theSigma Xi honor society and presently serves on several editorial boards, including thosefor Nutrition & Metabolism, Neurochemical Research, the Journal of Lipid Research,and ASN Neuro, where he is a Senior Editor. Professor Seyfried is also author of thebook, Cancer as a Metabolic Disease: On the Origin, Management, and Prevention ofCancer (Wiley Press), which has been translated into Chinese and Korean. He hasdescribed his research on many podcasts and radio shows and his work is central to thedocumentary film, The Cancer Revolution.
