In this episode, we have an introductory conversation with Dutch writer Ester Spitz, discussing her project ES: A study based on journals. Based in Los Angeles, Ester shares insights into the inspiration and influences behind transforming her personal journals into the work ES—which translates to “You Are” in Latin.With sincerity and depth, Ester reflects on her early life, the origins of her writing practice, and the painstaking process of bringing the book to life. Active across film, theatre, and performance art, Ester has been developing the ES series since 2010—a lyrical, long-form exploration of life, psyche, and emotional passage. The first volume was published in 2020.The conversation also touches on her current exhibition at El Nido, Los Angeles: Ester Spitz and Pim Kops — Writings and Photography 1981–1983.
