Seth Vertelney has the latest American women’s soccer news with Goal.The U.S. women’s national team advanced to the Olympic quarterfinals after drawing Australia 0-0 on Tuesday.The Americans could only finish second in their group, however, after Sweden clinched first place with a win over New Zealand. After entering the Olympics as the gold medal favorites, the U.S. had a disappointing group stage that saw them win one, lose one and draw one in their their three games. The U.S. will now face the Netherlands in the quarter finals, in what will be a rematch of the 2019 World Cup final. The Dutch will be looking for revenge after the U.S. won that match 2-0 in france.The winner between the U.S. and the Netherlands will face the winner between Canada and Brazil in the semifinals. Meanwhile, Team GB will face Australia in another quarterfinal, while Sweden will take on Japan.
