Bongaigaon is the only LAC in Assam, that has been held by a single legislator since 1985. Phani Bhushan Choudhury, a leader of the AGP, has been undefeated from the Bongaigaon seat since 1985, winning eight elections in a row.
In early 2024, Phani Bhushan was made to contest in the Lok Sabha elections from the Barpeta Constituency, on the plan of the NDA, which made his quit as the MLA of Bongaigaon, to be elected as the MP from Barpeta. This left the seat empty.
With crucial hold on the constituency by the Choudhury family, they decided to name his wife, Diptimoi as the next candidate from the same constituency.
Diptimoi is as clueless, as we are. She is yet to learn about the politics and the scenarios around. As such, can she prevail victorious?
