Episode Synopsis

When Christian Eriksen walked out onto the pitch for Denmark’s game against Finland he was in the prime of his life. Or so he thought. But five minutes before half time he suffered a cardiac arrest and collapsed to the ground. Fortunately, the rapid response of the medical team saved his life. But it could all have been so different.

Most of us make the assumption that we will live to see another day, but how can we ever be sure? Eriksen assumed that he was fit and healthy and was looking forward not just to the game against Finland, but many others as well. So, without wanting to be morbid we need to ask ourselves an important question: if my life were to end today would I be ready? Do I know what would happen to me? How can I be sure?

In conversation with some friends who were grieving the loss of their brother Jesus said this, ‘I am the resurrection and the life. Whoever believes in me will live, even though they die; and whoever lives and believes in me will never die.’ Nearly forty years ago I put my trust in this promise and I’ve been ready to die ever since.
