Episode Synopsis

As we know the universe is governed by certain laws. One concerns putting away Christmas tree decorations: only when you have packed them all away will you find one you missed. I have done this so many times that I have grown wise. I pack the boxes and then wait several days. I just know I’ve missed something. This year it was a green sparkly star found on the doorstep after dragging out the tree. The lesson is a simple one: don’t be too quick to pack Christmas away.

It’s made me think that perhaps we are all too quick to pack Christmas away. For a few brief weeks our homes have been filled with reminders of the reason for the season – trees that speak of eternal life, lights that shine in the darkness, gifts that remind us of the joy of giving, and carols that proclaimed a Saviour. But now we’ve packed it all away and the signs of God’s good news will quickly fade from our consciousness.

Perhaps then we should just accept the law concerning tree decorations, put them away, and when we find the one we missed keep it out as a reminder of why we were celebrating in the first place.
