How do you react to the statement: “Disciples weren’t just students learning from a teacher or a mentor. Disciples were apprentices, learning how to be like their rabbi.” Describe your own discipleship journey. In what ways are you striving to be an apprentice of Jesus? In what ways do you need/want to grow? Consider this quote from the“Practicing the Way” book: “Simon and Andrew were fishermen…they didn’t make it into an apprenticeship program. They weren’t the best of the best; they were the ones who got sent home…But Jesus invited them to become his apprentices…Before they believed in Jesus, he believed in them.”- What is your initial reaction to this quote? - What does it tell us about Jesus that he didn’t seek the best of the best to be his disciples? What does that tell us about ourselves? It was said in the sermon that many people who call themselves Christians view becoming a disciple of Jesus as optional? Do you agree or disagree? Why? As we enter this sermon series on intentional discipleship, what questions do you have? What are you looking forward to?
