Listen "The Language of Emoji"
Episode Synopsis
Today we’ll be talking about languages, translation, and interpretation from a different perspective. Let’s explore the language of emojis. Have you ever stopped to think about how something we use every day to communicate with others could be completely misinterpreted? And, as language professionals, did you know that there’s no international dictionary to indicate what each emoji means?
In order to further explore this fascinating subject, I sat down with Holly Silvestri, an experienced translator, interpreter, and founding member of the American Association of Interpreters and Translators in Education. She is also a Tool and Technology in Translation alumna, since she took my class at the University of California San Diego Extension while pursuing her English & Spanish Translation & Interpretation Professional Certificate.
