Episode Synopsis
Jen Wang has over a decade's worth of experiences applying interdisciplinary approaches to address issues of environmental sustainability. Originally from the Canadian prairies, she's since worked around the globe while at organizations such as the World Bank and the UK Behavioral Insights Team. She's also launched several organizations across North America to promote interdisciplinary cross-pollination and creativity, has led teams across public, academic, and private sectors, and continues to sprinkle music and art into her portfolio of projects.
Her background in molecular biology served as foundational training in the sciences and in systems thinking, which she later built upon with an interdisciplinary PhD focused on behavior change, environmental decision-making, and the intersection of organizations, business, climate change & sustainability. Her current work as a Director of Product at thredUP is focused on the online clothing resale market and the impacts that consumers can have when they buy secondhand and re-sell their clothing. Across these many experiences, Jen has become an evangelist for best practices in data and human-centered design, evidence-based policy and decision-making, and interdisciplinary collaboration and inclusive practices.
Jen is passionate about amplifying the voices of others and sharing impactful work, especially in support of social enterprises and topics related to environmental sustainability, social equity, and access. She has over 10 years of experience coaching public speaking and continues to teach on a number of topics including sustainability and environmental behavior change.
