Robert Bloch (1917 – 1994) was a versatile and influential writer whose work spanned multiple genres. Mentored by the iconic H. P. Lovecraft, he formed lasting friendships with notable figures like Stanley G. Weinbaum. Blochs extensive portfolio includes hundreds of short stories and novels, as well as television and film scripts, including contributions to the original Star Trek series. His most famous work, the novel Psycho, was published in 1959 and famously adapted into a film by Alfred Hitchcock the following year. Throughout his career, Bloch earned numerous accolades, including the Hugo Award, the World Fantasy Award, and the Bram Stoker Award, and he served as president of the Mystery Writers of America. This Crowded Earth, published in Amazing Stories in 1958, presents a gripping thriller set in a future where Earth is grappling with the challenges of overpopulation. (Summary by Gregg Margarite)
