Listen "Ep 37 Empowering Women and Breaking Period Taboos with Lucy Self on The Wise Why"
Episode Synopsis
Lucy Self Save My Knickers: Redefining Confidence, One Period at a Time
Lucy Self, the visionary founder of SSave My Knickers, Lucy's mission is simple yet revolutionary: to empower women to feel confident and comfortable every day of the month while breaking the taboos surrounding periods and menopause. Lucy's journey began when she met Kirsty during an @oxlepbusiness8277 training course, and Kirsty witnessed Lucy's dedication to creating content for social media. Periods are often considered taboo, much like menopause, leading to frequent censorship of social media marketing related to these topics. Lucy aims to change this narrative and normalise conversations around periods and menopause. In this episode, Kirsty and Lucy discuss the highs and lows of Lucy's business journey and her life story, shedding light on her challenges. They emphasise that periods and menopause are not shameful subjects and highlight the need to overcome euphemisms in favour of open, honest discussions. The statistics are staggering: the average age for a girl to start menstruation is 12, and the average age for menopause in the UK is between 45 and 55. That's a significant portion of a woman's life trying to avoid accidents and stains. Save My Knickers is a multi-award-winning blood stain remover that has emerged as a solution to this age-old problem. Lucy's product empowers women to wear their favourite knickers every day of the month while reducing waste and raising awareness about period taboos. Save My Knickers started as a kitchen experiment, born out of Lucy's frustration with ruined underwear, pyjamas, and bed sheets due to blood stains. Unable to find a suitable solution, Lucy tirelessly experimented until she discovered the magic formula that successfully removed blood stains every time. Once an NHS children's physiotherapist, Lucy hung up her scrubs in February 2022 to fully commit to her mission of knicker-saving. This episode is a must-watch, as Lucy has addressed a problem that every person who menstruates can relate to, making it a true game-changer.
