"God helps those who help themselves." It's a familiar phrase, right? Would you be shocked to hear that it's actually a phrase that comes from ancient Greek theater and has been popularized by English and American philosophers? The Bible doesn't actually say anything like this, and most of the Bible would appear to advocate for the complete opposite worldview. The entire purpose of the Bible is to explain that where we could not, Christ could. Where we were insufficient, Christ was wholly sufficient. The beauty and glory of Christ's gift to this earth is that there was nothing we could do to qualify or disqualify ourselves.
