The app was founded by Cassel Shapiro, who was inspired by his own experience struggling to communicate in a foreign language while traveling.Shapiro spent two years researching and developing the app before launching it commercially in November 2022. Skillr currently offers 50 categories of skills, with 250 specific skills available, and professionals can set their own rates and availability.
