Pine Gap is a top-secret Australian military installation located approximately 230 kilometers north-west of Alice Springs. The installation is used by the Australian Defence Intelligence Organisation (ADIO) to intercept and decode communications from around the world. It also plays a role in the Australian Defence Force's (ADF) surveillance and reconnaissance operations.

Pine Gap was first established in World War II as a communications intercept station. It was subsequently used by the United States Army during the Vietnam War, and later by the Australian Defence Intelligence Organisation. The installation has been controversial because of its secretive nature and its potential to influence Australian politics.
