We talked about the parts most people don’t see behind the title “Site Director at Microsoft”: the love story with Grant, the long-held hope to become a mom, and the moment at 10 weeks when a genetic counselor called to say their baby likely had Down syndrome—followed by a 13-week scan that suggested only a 10% chance of survival. Taya chose faith over fear. She stayed crystal clear through pregnancy, welcomed Olive via emergency C-section, and heard a baby girl roar her way into the world—no NICU stay, just pure “sparkly magic.”Motherhood re-wired her mission. Taya helped pass North Dakota legislation (2023) protecting people with intellectual disabilities from organ transplant discrimination, became an NDSS ambassador, and leaned into local community with Gigi’s Playhouse. Essentia launched “Olive Branch” to better support new Down syndrome diagnoses—proof of how one child can catalyze systems to love better. We dug into the real juggle: harvest season, travel, therapies, grandparents, and the myth of “mom guilt.” Her lighthouse is Jesus; her metric is leading with love. She doesn’t chase corner offices—she chooses work that fuels purpose and family, trusting the next right thing. If you ask what she wants to be remembered for, it’s simple and uncompromising: being a good person who leads with love. That’s the throughline of her story—grace for herself, advocacy for others, and a daily choice to build legacy at home while moving mountains in the world.About Taya: Taya is the Director of Fargo Site TechSpark Engagement for Microsoft.
