We started where most bios don’t: her decision to trade a protective “bubble” for real connection. Early leadership put her under a microscope, and judgment made her small. Co-workers literally hugged her into softening—and in that process she learned to see herself first so she could actually serve. That shift—self first so mission can be bigger—now anchors how she leads, loves, and lets people in. We traced the thread from private Shannon to present Shannon: a mom who recalibrated after honest talks with her daughters, a leader who chooses vulnerability over image, and an executive who won’t lose touch with “her people.”We dug into legacy and seasons—mothering from 33 to 18, approaching empty nest, and redefining impact when the house gets quiet. Shannon’s lighthouse is joy: when the day goes sideways, she walks out of the office to be with the people CCRI serves and lets their presence wreck her bad mood. She shared the memory that almost broke her—losing her grandmother at 18—and how it forged her capacity to sit with life’s hardest thresholds. What she wants for women? To be brave, authentic, and willing to ask “what if this turns out even better than expected?” What she’s most proud of? Doing the inner work—cutting misaligned ties, healing her health, and becoming a leader who builds people, not pedestals. Impact over importance. Mission over image. Joy over drama.About Shannon: Shannon Bock is the executive director of CCRI, a Moorhead-based nonprofit organization dedicated to enhancing the lives of people with disabilities.
