Barry Hearn: “I’m the best in the world at what I do”
Barry Hearn is one of the biggest names in sports promotion as founder and Chairman of Matchroom Sports. Beginning his career with the purchase of a snooker club in Romford, Essex and going on to make snooker one of the most watched sports on television.
In the late 1980’s Barry moved into Boxing and went on to promote numerous top fighters. Barry’s son Eddie now manages the boxing business and the organisation is continually breaking new records with fights featuring the likes of Anthony Joshua and Tony Bellew.
Known for revolutionising sports, Barry also turned darts from a pub game into a sport, selling out arenas all over the country. He has turned his hand to pool, ten pin bowling, golf, table tennis, poker - and even created the televised fishing tournament Fish O Mania. Barry’s foray into football saw him Chair Leyton Orient Football Club.
Barry tells Sandro about the importance to him of passion in what he does, assessing the upside and downside of each goal and talks through some of the moments that have given him memories he’ll never forget.
