Listen "The Vanity of Wealth"
Episode Synopsis
This morning we continue in our study through the book of Ecclesiastes looking at Ecclesiastes 5:8-6:12. The Preacher describes the futility of riches and the realities of wealth. Greed is the way of failure, frustration, and folly. Contentment is the way of flourishing, godliness, and a sign of humble faith. Greed leads to injury of others and self. It can bring injustice and isolation.True and lasting satisfaction, deep and abiding contentment can be found in Jesus. Our unfulfilled appetites and lack of satisfaction in the world with created things point us to the one our souls were made for. Our hearts are restless until we rest in Jesus. If greed says, "I need more, I don't have enough," contentment says, "I have enough and everything I need in Jesus." Jesus provides a happiness and satisfaction that is unwavering because it's not dependent upon us. It's not conditional upon our circumstances or upon our performance. Contentment is found in Jesus, because it rests upon His finished work. May we find happiness and satisfaction in the the completed work of Jesus Christ and be content in the greatest gift of God.
