Episode Synopsis

In the 4th episode of the Lion-Faced Guru Podcast, Amrita Baba interviews Lama Lyse from New Zealand about her inspiring life, her spiritual path and her fascinating years with two of the greatest Nyingma/Dzogchen masters of our recent time: Dilgo Khyentse Rinpoche and Chatral Rinpoche.  Lama Lyse is a longtime and close student of Dilgo Khyentse and Chatral Rinpoche. Both were great figures of the Nyingma-school of Tibetan Buddhism. She lived close to Dilgo Rinpoche for six years until his passing in 1991 and then continued her studies with Chatral Rinpoche which lasted another 28 years until his passing in 2015 including an eight-year retreat directly under his guidance.

Lama Lyse trained in the Longchen Nyingtik tradition of the Nyingma Lineage but leans towards a wide view which encompasses Advaita and Dzogchen. Her teaching style is one that focusses on the great question, 'Who Am I?' and emphasises a sincere and dynamic form of practice which each student is invited to experience fully and authentically within the basic Dharma structure of prayers such as Refuge, Bodhicitta and Dedication. She also teaches from texts such as Patrul Rinpoche's Heart Treasure of the Enlightened Ones, and the Three Words that Strike the Vital Point in a free, simple and straightforward style.

Lyse is originally from New Zealand but has lived in India and Nepal for 35 years. She has maintained a blog; Ever Here Now since 2013 and has written several books.
