Episode Synopsis
Kevin is part of a multi-generational farming family. In fact, he and his brothers represent the 5th generation. His family business is called Howe Family Farm Market located in Aylmer, Ontario. There they grow large acreage of strawberries, cantaloupe, watermelons, squash, pumpkins and beans. The majority of what they produce is sold to large grocery store chains.
Given that Halloween is just around the corner, we will be chatting with Kevin about growing pumpkins. We will learn about his no-till approach to growing pumpkins, as well as the many different varieties that his family grows. From there we will talk about the importance of water conservation and drip irrigation. As a leader in the industry, we will talk about the exciting changes happening with the Ontario Berry Growers Association. We will end our discussion talking the changes to Ontario’s minimum wage laws. Kevin will offer his perspective and share how you can speak up for your farm!
