She began making comics after getting her BA in English Literature from the University of Wales in 1998. Working in both fiction and autobiography, Mardou’s comics explore interior experiences such as mental illness, emotional dynamics within families, her religious upbringing in the Jehovah's Witnesses and healing from trauma through therapy.
