Listen "The Power in Empathy"
Episode Synopsis
How do we bring power in empathy?Empathy is a skill that embraces all people and perspectives. Can you imagine being in a meeting with someone who can empathize with you? The empathetic listener activates the cingulate cortex in our brain. What does empathy not mean?It does mean shouldering someone's luggage. It means putting yourself in their shoes and using words like, " I understand," "I can see that you are upset," and "Your feelings are valid." It allows someone to feel heard. When empathy fails, stop, pause, and listen to yourself. Catching yourself not empathetic is okay. You always have the time to recalibrate.Have you been in a situation like this before?Drop your comments!-----------Welcome to The Dialogic Approach; we are hosts Rachelle Carrié and Dr. Funmi Aguocha! We are two Black Professional Women in Leadership roles who have combined our subject matter experiences to better suit high-achieving women leaders in the workplace and at home.
