The Bednars return to to Arkansas

Lived in Fayetteville from 1980 to 1997.
“We are not Arkansans by birth, but whatever degree of adoption is necessary to be a full-blooded Arkansan, that is what we are.”

Arkansas Secretary of State John Thurston was impressed by the paint and trim and said the temple is the ”most pristine structure that I’ve ever seen.”

Typhoon Damages Temple

Yigo Guam Temple

Typhoon Mawar (Category 4) hit guam on May 24th
Flooding saturated the carpets and some furniture inside the Yigo temple and at a nearby meetinghouse.
The typhoon also damaged trees and other landscaping on the temple grounds.
The temple did not sustain any structural damage, but it will be closed for repairs because of typhoon damage through July 24.
Temple was dedicated one year ago  (May 22, 2022)

No one on the island was killed during the storm
Most homes were damaged, winds of 140 mph
Members and Missionaries worked to clear water from the building and with the Salvation Army to distribute supplies.

New Temple Visitors Center

Nauvoo Illinois

Located across from the Temple
“240-seat theater, displays, exhibits and a classroom”
“The temple is the most inaccessible building in town. It is strikingly beautiful, but mysterious. Some people come to Nauvoo and want to know what it is. To reduce the mystery, the visitors center will explain the heritage and purpose of the temple.”

Construction Progress

Cody Wyoming Temple

Church hosts open house to answer questions on June 6th
New Exterior Renderings Shown
Temple estimated to generate at most 32 vehicle per hour on average
A Methodist visitor commented that “Religion is personal, It’s a beautiful building. It’s on private land. Let’s move forward and not go backward.”
On June 15th, The Planning and Zoning Board approved the temple, but they put off the decision on approving the 77-foot steeple.

The city planner argues a steeple is not part of the building height as stated in the zoning.
300 people attended the meeting

“The temple will attract “good” LDS families to the community and improve it.”
“100-foot billboard advertising Mormonism that us gentiles would have to view day after day.”
“Cities are branded by their towers”
the Religious Land Use and Institutionalized Persons Act of 2000, which protects people, houses of worship and other religious institutions from discrimination in zoning and landmarking laws. (Being discussed in Heber as well)

(Boston temple was dedicated without a steeple until a lawsuit went through to allow the steeple)
