A self-proclaimed “numbers guy,” Flansburg’s fascination with numerical concepts dates back to his childhood, where he’s spent his focus ever since. “Ever since I was a kid when I started learning about numbers I just kept seeing patterns I couldn’t see them and it made so much sense,” Flansburg explains. As an adult, Flansburg shocked the world as the “human calculator” when he outperformed a calculator in a race of adding two-digit constants. Even with such an impressive achievement to his name, Flansburg is no one-trick pony, building an impressive resume as a computer programmer, a member of the Air Force, and even an author, publishing Math Magic and Math Magic for Your Kids.
With the Mavens, Flansburh discusses the methods behind his mathematical process, how to make math more accessible to children, and an alternative calendar concept that promotes consistency between days of the week and month.
