The path that your life takes is not always linear. A political communication student at Emerson College, DJ Mara comes on the Tansson Talks show to speak about his political campaign work, highlight his reason for taking a gap year before college, and share why he hopes more people get involved in their local elections.


Brandon K. Hedgepeth is a podcaster and graduate student majoring in lifespan and digital communication. He has been curating online content since May 2016.


DJ Mara is a Worcester, MA native in his first year studying political communication at Emerson College in Boston. He has worked on several political campaigns, ranging from managing local school committee races to working as a fellow on a U.S. Senate campaign. DJ has particular interest in mobilizing and increasing voter turnout, especially in local elections. When not on the campaign trail, DJ can be seen writing articles for The Berkeley Beacon, Emerson's school newspaper, or further exploring his hobby for photography throughout Boston.
