Listen "Thailand's Robotic Cop"
Episode Synopsis
Earlier this year Thailand has introduced its first AI-powered police robot, dubbed "AI police cyborg 1.0," deploying it at the Songkran festival in Bangkok. This stationary robot uses 360-degree cameras, AI, and data from CCTV and drones to detect threats and alert human officers. Developed by local police and government agencies, the robot is equipped with facial recognition and weapon detection capabilities. While China has also been experimenting with more mobile humanoid police robots, the effectiveness and practicalities of Thailand's new robotic officer, which appears limited in mobility, are being questioned. The deployment raises concerns about privacy implications and the actual utility compared to simpler surveillance technologies. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.
