Have you ever gone up to someone to share something that was going on in your life and rather than listening to you or supporting you, they turned things around and started talking about themselves? It can certainly be frustrating. It happens so often that it’s almost surprising, even refreshing, when someone practices active listening and simply receives and affirms what’s being shared. As Proverbs 27:2 reminds us, “Let another praise you, and not your own mouth—a stranger, and not your own lips.” While we may have a tendency to point to self, what would it mean to uplift others. Better yet, what would it mean to point to Jesus and uplift His presence and work in our lives? That would truly be a blessing.
