Listen "Mae Claxton"
Episode Synopsis
Our conversation this week is with Mae Claxton. A professor of English at Western Carolina University. A Eudora Welty scholar. A dedicated teacher. She wants to resurrect and uplift the stories that haven't been respected or told. Her life mirrors her curiosities, moving from her homeland in southern Georgia to her home now in the Southern Appalachians. Her desire to learn from and about women writers led her from people like Eudora and Flannery O'Connor to unsung Appalachian writers like Wilma Dykeman and Lillian Smith. Kindred spirits are Eudora Welty lovers, and it felt right to share Mae's insights with you before I travel to Mississippi later this week. Mae's books at University of Mississippi Press Horace Kephart: Writings Mentioned in this episode: One Writer's Beginnings by Eudora Welty
