Listen "S1E13 The Whole ‘Being Dead’ Thing"
Episode Synopsis
S1E13: The Whole “Being Dead” ThingHi everyone!Welcome back to another week here at Stage Door Medium! This week, I’m joined by the incredible Dana Steingold who made her Broadway debut in Beetlejuice the Musical. Previous credits include the national tour of the 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee, as well as the off-Broadway production of Avenue Q, City Center Encore’s Production of Anyone Can Whistle, and my favorite where I was able to see Dana perform, Into the Woods at KCR.Dana is a fitting guest today as we’re discussing haunted houses and energetic imprinting. It’s a tricky topic to cover, as for the most part, I don’t really believe in the concept of haunted houses or locations. For me, it’s hard to digest the fact that after we pass, we want to hang out in an old creaky home, or an old battlefield where we died to just scare people. Rather, I DO believe that our personality and sense of humor does translate to the other side. For example, if someone was a loud, boisterous person while they were here and they enjoyed jumping out and scaring people for laughs, their “signs” they leave their loved ones may not be as gentle as a penny or a perfume scent. Rather, it may be having an object move, it may be a loud noise. While this isn’t the case for all folks on the other side, it is very common. In terms of why certain spaces are deemed as “haunted” then, my answer would be the fact that some lower vibrational Spirits want the attention because they miss the physical (In a way, they’re stuck in the past by their choosing) This is a condensed version of a blog post that’s coming out soon on my site, but it’ll do for now! Dana and I discuss the topic of energetic imprinting and why theatres are one of the best places to experience what an imprint feels like, whether that be from the perspective of an audience member, or especially a castmate backstage where they’re obviously in the theatre more regularly than an audience member. In addition, Dana and I discuss distracting habits during a performance and a reading (Hint: Please don’t text during a reading OR at the theatre), and how to deal with folks who may bring a very strange, “caution tape” energy into a rehearsal room or reading. If you’re looking for ways to clear out that wonky energy after a person leaves, Jimmy shares tips for how to properly sage after they’re gone. Finally, Dana and I spend a good amount of time talking about her reading and the visit from a very special teacher of hers from Stage Door Manor, Michael Larsen. As a medium perceiving Michael’s energy, it’s a real joy to soak up, and fun fact: Michael has actually come through now four more times for other Broadway actors who knew and worked with him! One was previous guest, Julia Murney! Finally, we talk about the supportive fan base of Beetlejuice, why shows about grief are ultimately fan favorites, and why little red riding hood from Into the Woods may need a medium the most…Dana’s Instagram: @dsteinfaceBook a reading with Jimmy here: Stage Door MediumEditing: David Ray DesignWatch on Instagram & YouTube
