If you direct your gaze upwards, the world can appear a very different and beautiful place. The mosaics of St Paul’s are a perfect case in point! Artist and mosaicist William Blake Richmond had been in discussions about the interior decoration of the Cathedral since 1874, but it wasn’t until 1890 that he had developed a scheme of designs for the ceilings of the Quire and Apse.
