God gave Hosea a strange but specific command in chapter one. Hosea was to go and take a certain kind of woman. And he obeyed. In chapter three, it becomes obvious that Gomer has returned to her old ways. God gives Hosea another command as strange as the first: Go buy Gomer back to yourself. This is a wonderful picture of grace, forgiveness, mercy, and redemption. But, there are stipulations and safeguards. There are also consequences for sin. God had controversy with Israel.
