Episode Synopsis

The Anti-Resolution New Year: Repetition

Welcome back to our New Year episodes where we are kicking resolutions to the curb and taking a different approach.

Did you know that 43% of people quit their resolutions by the end of January? In this episode, we look at the BIG changes made on the Biggest Loser and how sadly, those big changes didn’t last. Resolutions have that same big overhaul idea. Large goals. Lots of room for failure.

We propose a different way!

First, look at how you can keep your habit small. Keep the resistance low. Provide lots of opportunities for celebration. This increases dopamine and therefor the likelihood that you will keep at it. A small taken every day, is reason to celebrate. And, there is a lot less chance of failure. But, more opportunities for a new look at the word F.A.I.L.: Frequent Attempts in Learning.

Second, gets your reps in! James Clear poses a new question. Rather than, “How many days does it take to develop a new habit?” He asks, “How many repetitions does it take to make a habit automatic? Keep this truth in mind, the most effective form of learning is practice, not planning! You must act. And, you must act over and over!

We encourage you to consider if using a type of tracker may help you gets your reps in. If so, why not download and print this simple 30 day tracker from Lisa’s website: https://empoweringhealthcoach.com/store/ols/products/free-30-habit-tracker
