Hungry? Thirsty? Just want to go out and see friends or check out a new spot in the neighborhood? Ordering a meal or going out for the evening is a fairly routine occurrence for most us, but why is that? For much of human history geting a quick bite, or even a cold beer wasn't an option...at least not one that came without sever risks of food bourne illness. So How did we get to a point were breakouts of E. Coli, Salmonella, listeria, and a host of other viral and bacterial infections are extremly rare....as opposed to a common, everyday concern? On 'A Serving Of History,' Short Orders intends to take you on a journey through the rocky, interesting, bizzare, and innovative history of food service and hospitality; one issue at a time. This week we begin with Food Safety; where we'll disucss what brought us from a world of bacterial infections to a world that...while still containing all those same harmful bacteria and microogranisms, is at least a mucher safer place to grab a burger.
