Listen "READ: Rules for Meditation"
Episode Synopsis
This is a reading of Great Master Dogen's 'Rules for Meditation'. This writing is read at Shasta Abbey during 'evening service' as a way of reflecting upon on our meditation practice. Master Dogen wrote this work upon his return from China to Japan in the 13th century. When Master Dogen was asked by monks of other Buddhist schools what he had found in China, Dogen responded 'a soft and flexible mind'. It is this soft and flexible mind which Master Dogen's Rules for Meditation encourages us to establish within ourselves through our own practice. You can recite along with the recording and then sit in meditation, bringing evening service into your daily life. See the link below for a PDF that has the text. -find the text at: https://www.shastaabbey.org/pdf/IntroSRM13.pdf
