Episode Synopsis

Beginning to explore the internal landscape of our bodies (i.e. emotions, sensations, feelings) may not be fully available depending on what your body/mind has experienced. Sometimes we click out or separate from what is occurring based on how overwhelming a situation is. Dissociation is essentially a management strategy our brain uses to help us disconnect from our bodies when something is too overwhelming. When we dissociate our body is saying “it isn’t safe to be here or feel this, so let’s get the F out”. If dissociation becomes a habit or pattern of management it can become difficult to feel connected and aware of present situations. Renegotiating the relationship to your body and learning to be with the difficult and uncomfortable feelings/sensations is a slow practice and requires so much curiosity. It is important that we give ourselves compassion for the process of reconnecting to parts of ourselves that we have had to avoid or suppress to stay safe. Before we dive into feeling sensations we wanted to name that dissociation is real and it is not wrong. AND we can begin the process of coming home to ourselves when we have the permission (from ourselves) to feel what we feel and do what we need to do without judgment or shame. Connect with us!Ashley: https://www.drashleyzimmerman.com/https://www.instagram.com/heyashleyz/ Sara Cate: http://somaandsoulco.com/ https://www.instagram.com/somaandsoulco/ RESOURCES: SOMATIC EXPERIENCING PRACTITIONER DIRECTORY:https://directory.traumahealing.org/MENTAL/EMOTIONAL/ SOMATIC THERAPY DIRECTORY:https://www.psychologytoday.com/usSUICIDE PREVENTION:https://988lifeline.org/SELF HARM PREVENTION:https://www.crisistextline.org/topics/self-harm/#what-is-self-harm-1CHILD ABUSE SUPPORT SERVICES:https://justiceforchildren.org/our-philosophy/SUBSTANCE USE ISSUES AND MENTAL HEALTH SERVICES:https://www.samhsa.gov/find-help/national-helplineDOMESTIC VIOLENCE SUPPORT SERVICES:https://www.thehotline.org/?utm_source=google&utm_medium=organic&utm_campaign=domestic_violenceSEXUAL VIOLENCE AND ASSAULT SUPPORT SERVICES:https://www.rainn.org/DISORDERED EATING SUPPORT SERVICES:https://www.nationaleatingdisorders.org/help-support/contact-helplineSPIRITUAL ABUSE SUPPORT SERVICES:https://www.spiritualabuseresources.com/CULTURAL ABUSE SUPPORT SERVICES:https://refuge.org.uk/i-need-help-now/how-we-can-help-you/culturally-specific-services/
