In today's episode, Brooklyn Judge Matthew D'Emic joins to speak with me about the intersection of mental illness and the criminal justice system. He shares his insights from over 20 years of service on Brooklyn's mental health court, where he still presides today. We also discuss Judge D'Emic's work on a task force of state judges looking at the path forward for mental health court reform.Judge Matthew D'Emic, Judge at Brooklyn Supreme Court, helped found Brooklyn's mental health court in 2001 -the first in New York State- and still presides over the court today. In 2020, Judge D'Emic joined a task force of state judges looking at how courts can better serve the mentally ill.
