Send us a textAs the Savior’s disciples began establishing His Church throughout the land, a question arose that, to some, might seem like a minor point... What should be the name of the Church? Jesus establishes that His Church should be called by HIS name.  We learn from this the significance of each word in the name of His Church. In chapter 28, we see Jesus speaking to his disciples, one by one, asking them: “What is it that ye ​​​desire​ of ​​me, after that I am gone to the Father? Nine of the disciples said: “We desire that after we have lived unto the age of man, that our ministry, wherein thou hast called us, may have an end, that we may speedily come unto thee in thy kingdom.” Jesus tells them that they are blessed because of this thing they have asked, then tells them they will live for 72 years each, then they will “come unto me in my ​​​kingdom​; and with me ye shall find ​​​rest​“.He then turns to the remaining three, who are hesitant to share what they desire. Christ perceives their thoughts and tells them that just like the apostle John in the old world, they shall “never taste of death”. These are the fabled “three Nephites” that many of us have heard stories about, who still walk among us to this day!4 Nephi shows us how The Savior’s gospel can transform a people. Following Jesus’s brief ministry, centuries of contention between the Nephites and Lamanites came to an end. Two nations known for dissension and pride became “one, the children of Christ”. They no longer identified themselves according to their lineage or ethnicity; the people were truly one united body of believers in Christ!As always, we see how the scriptures are relevant to our lives in this age. The Savior’s teachings are more than a beautiful philosophical perspective on life; they are intended to change lives.
