Listen "1622: What Happened to Building for the Long Term? An Architectural Conundrum"
Episode Synopsis
There is so much construction/building happening in South Australia, but how long are these structures considered to last?
We used to invest in lasting structures more than we do now. Have we lost our confidence in the future and because of this we don’t see the value in building to last, or have we learned how fast things change and we are no longer confident we can design buildings that will be useful in the future, so instead we build cheaply and for the short term?
Senior Architect Gerald Matthews, Managing Director at Matthews Architects, has been pondering these questions. He joins Jennie Lenman for a chat about it.
