Listen "Shakamohta: Haven and Ireland Wong on Sports"
Episode Synopsis
Rupertsland Institute presents Shakamohta, a student-led podcast exploring the way in which Métis people excel in a variety of fields. Today’s episode is all about sports. Haven and Ireland Wong are Métis sisters, teachers, and high-level handball players. They sat down with host Jory Proft to discuss handball in Canada, being Indigenous athletes, and what it's like to represent Canada and the Métis community on the international level. Our Michif Word of the Day comes from a Northern Michif word for ‘game’ or ‘sport’. The word is mîtawêwin [mee-tah-wee-win]. You could say, “hockey is my favourite mîtawêwin”, or “mîtawêwin is something that brings us all together.”For more information about Rupertsland Institute's programs and opportunities, visit our website at https://www.rupertsland.org/.
