Episode Synopsis "Rose And Shine Episode 2 - Sasha Coles"

At Shine, we like to light things up. Our philosophy is simple: everyone deserves to shine. Our Rose and Shine podcast features stories that light me up. I’ll provide space for people who are doing good things to share their shiny stories…stories that illuminate what it takes to be an effective communicator in a digital age. The individuals I speak with share the values that guide our work at Shine Communications: optimism, creativity, education…and doing good things in the world. In this episode, I speak with Sasha Coles, creator of The Enchanted Archives, a digital public history project that uses the Disney experience to teach historical lessons. I first met Sasha at the University of California, Santa Barbara, where she is pursuing a PhD in American history. I’m an alum of the program she’s currently enrolled in, and we quickly connected over our shared passion about the potential of digital communications to enhance historical scholarship, and our love of everything Disney. In this podcast, Sasha shares some of her ideas about her journey into a digital history project and the importance of academics using digital formats to share their scholarship. A key insight? Sasha wants historians to take the reins, saying “Historians should feel emboldened to intervene in creative and interesting ways.” Thanks for tuning in!
