Episode Synopsis

Introducing Tom Ray of Gangrene Dream, an up and coming punk band finding its space in Melbourne. Tom, as you'll hear in this episode is a guitarist, a sound technician and producer within the music industry. During this time he was touring with a theatre show and filled me in on that experience along with his music career pre-Gangrene Dream and now with the band. His openness to discuss navigating the Melbourne music scene and what is important to him as a multi-faceted individual in the music industry is highly appreciated. I think one quote from later on in the episode says a lot about his viewpoint on music making, living, and experiencing in Melbourne - one that is as you've heard by now not just felt by or said by him, but by others.{about Melbourne as a music city}, "It just certainly doesn't have…nowhere else is as diverse, I think. I could go, I could take my skills to Sydney and do corporate audio visual and make a shit load of money. I'd be the smarter thing to do. But that's not why I do it. Yeah. But yeah, definitely. I think there's the variety of arts and music within Melbourne. I don't think I'd be able to do it anywhere else".And that there is the reason why even I an American, is coming back to Melbourne, Australia. There is this magnetic pull towards the music culture and community that you do not want to leave. It's vibrant and worth saving through advocacy, research, community and sharing stories like this.Thank you to Tom for the chat and stay tuned for the last 2 episodes to come out sooo very soon!More on Gangrene Dream:InstagramSpotifyLinktreeTo learn more about Musicians Australia (mentioned in episode):InstagramWebsiteTo learn more about Rockin' and Talkin':Instagram - feel free to reach out, leave a comment, a question, or a like!Season 1 Playlist On Spotify- hear the tunes that are created by our guestsPatreon - gain access to the research paper ($15)
