Listen "Handing adversity... No excuses! | Kevin Brewer | Rise Again From The Struggle"
Episode Synopsis
Adversity hit hard for me today. Here's how I handled it and got my best ski resort Spartan time. Not even a quarter of the way up the initial one mile climb, my body decided it wasn't going to go at the pace I wanted to go. It made my legs weak, and my arms and hands were tingling. My heart rate was way up, too. I wasn't getting enough oxygen.I had a few choices. I could keep pushing and really risk not finishing. I could panic and believe my body wasn't capable, and my heart was going to be at risk. Or, I could accept my reality at that moment and change my game plan.I changed my plans, knowing I could reevaluate as my conditions changed again. I slowed my pace drastically to a slow walk. I focused on my breathing and taking in as deep a breaths as I could. As things settled and my body settled, I walked a little faster. As the grade got lower, I was able to jog a little. Then I was off. I was back in it, and I already had a huge mental win going into the rest of the race. What about you? How would you have handheld that situation? And be truthful. I'm genuinely curious. No excuses! Kevin BrewerRise Again From The Struggle
