Episode Synopsis

This episode features Purdue student and rare disease advocate, Anneliese Williams. After Anneliese was diagnosed with Guillain-Barre Syndrom, an intense autoimmune disorder in which the immune system attacks the nerves, she was left paralyzed in the ICU. In this episode, she discusses how she is recovering, and how physical therapy and playing wheelchair basketball with the Lafayette Spinners has helped her physically and mentally. She shares her thoughts on the RIISE Student Organization and a recent visit she had to Washington D.C. where she spoke to state representatives advocating for people with rare diseases like hers.

RIISE is a new student organization on Purdue University's campus. RIISE stands for Reinventing, the Interface of Inclusivity, Sports, and Engineering. RIISE was created at Purdue University, one the the best engineering hubs in the US. Therefore, we plan to use our platform to showcase paralympic excellence around the world while pursuing projects and hosting events to improve sports accessibility in our local community and beyond. We are a club made up of students from different backgrounds and disciplines, striving together towards a world where athletes at all levels have the means and support to play and perform at their full potential.

The direction of this podcast is to highlight the amazing things the RIISE Organization does in the Purdue community. Hearing firsthand from the people who have been impacted and those who are trying to make an impact. We greatly appreciate you giving your time and supporting our organization by listening!
