Over-managing and over-indulging are two types of weakening resposnses. These are called the weakening responses because they discourage our children from making their own choices and taking responsibilty for their own action. 
This concept was first propogated by Dr. Roger K Allen. 
Ways in which we over manage- 
1. Lecturing 
2. Arguing 
3. Criticizing 
4. Getting Mad 
5. Comparing 
6. Threatening 
7. Nagging 

Ways in which we over indulge - 
1. Hovering 
2. Sympathizing 
3. Catering 
4. Fixing 
5. Rescuing 
6. Protecting 
7. Pleading 
8. Bribing 
9. Giving in 

Both over-managaing and over-indulging isn't a good way to respond. Instead, we should respond in a way that encourages them to make their own choices and take responsibilty for their own actions.
