Discontentment is a deadly poison to the human soul, and it is a constant companion to all of us. The final commandment in God's top ten uniquely focuses on your heart, your desires. To covet is to pant after or to earnestly desire. This sin is a willful rejection of who God is and the purposeful decision to believe the opposite of God's character. We must kill covetousness or it will kill us, and two ways to have victory over covetousness is through desire and contentment. Jesus alone has the power to transform the human heart from being depraved and overrun with self-centered covetousness into purified, holy and victorious over sin. Belief in the death, burial and resurrection of Jesus is our only means of being born again.
