Listen "The Balance Power and Hope: Applying 12 Steps To Stroke Recovery"
Episode Synopsis
When things are going my way, I have a false sense of power or control over my life, people, places, and things. When things don’t go according to my plan, I recognize the complete lack of control I have. Since my stroke I’ve had so much fear that I can’t seem to shake—what does my future hold, and how can I live without that handle I had on my life?
I have been working on a concept that my psychiatrist shared with me: you had no more control then than you have now. I have found that the key to this false sense of control is hope. Where there is hope, I feel empowered.
One of the ways I’ve been cultivating hope is in new hobbies: painting, crocheting, sewing, upcycling, jewelry making, etc. Each of my creations represents a story of transformation, healing, and resilience. I have found purpose in repurposing and acceptance in hope. From furniture makeovers to quilts to my popular painted pill bottle pots, each piece is a symbol of finding purpose and hope in the face of adversity.
I’m excited to have opened my Etsy shop to give access to gifts of my recovery to yours.
