Two years post-stroke, I've been wrestling with chronic headaches and migraines, seeking answers, and trying to make sense of their connection to my stroke and my recovery. Research suggests around 23% of stroke survivors have persistent headaches, which can be more severe than the pain experienced during the stroke itself. My stroke was pain free, so this really hit home for me. Another fascinating fact that I ran across was that many say they resemble the feeling of a band around your head, which is the way I've articulated my experience to my doctors.
The management and treatment of post-stroke headaches remain elusive to doctors. As I approach my neuro-opthalmologist appointment, I feel better prepared to discuss what I'm experiencing.
